Meet the Guest Chefs – Joe Kindred, Kindred Restaurant and Hello Sailor

SINCE OPENING in February 2015, Kindred Restaurant in Davidson has been drawing national attention for its seasonal, creative small plates menu. Co-owner and chef Joe Kindred runs the kitchen, while his wife and business partner, Katy, oversees the front of the house.

It was named No. 7 among the country’s top 10 new restaurants by Bon Appetit – the first time a Charlotte-area place made the list.

After garnering national accolades, including a second semifinalist nod for the James Beard Foundation’s Best Chef: Southeast award, the Kindreds are ready for another small-town venture: Hello, Sailor.

The couple’s second restaurant takes up residence at The Holiday Marina on Lake Norman in Cornelius, N.C., about four miles southwest of downtown Davidson and 20 miles north of Charlotte. The waterfront space, previously home to a restaurant called The Rusty Rudder, covers 4,000 square feat with an additional 3,000-square-foot patio and tiki bar.
